We get several questions asked over and over again:

  1. What is Xylitol?
  2. What are the advantages?
  3. Why is it so expensive?
  4. Why do you use it?

The easy answers are:

  1. Xylitol is a polyol, a sugar alcohol. It is all natural, safe for diabetics and has many health benefits.
  2. It is all natural, safe for diabetics and has many health benefits.
  3. Mostly, it is made from birch bark or corn. Ice Chips Candy uses only the birch bark Xylitol in order to avoid any chance of using Genetically Modified Corn (GMO). Additionally, the process and availability render this product much more expensive than sugar.
  4. Ice Chips Candy uses Birchwood Xylitol (made in the USA), in order to access the health benefits, particularly the dental and diabetic advantages.

We researched and understood the benefits of Xylitol early on at our parent company Healing Leaf LLC. We even sold a compressed pill-like candy for a while but wanted something with a higher concentration of Xylitol and a lower price point. While we could easily acquire bulk Xylitol, we were told it was impossible to make a hard candy.

If you want to get an impossible task accomplished, you might try going to someone with little knowledge of the subject but a passion for getting things done. Because we were health product experts but not Xylitol experts we ignored all the warnings. Lo and behold, within two days of trying, we created a tasty hard Xylitol candy in three different yummy flavors. Within a week we had seven of our current 18 flavors and we were selling Ice Chips to our friends.

We never underestimate the public's willingness to do the right thing for their bodies. We understand it is possible to get a package of breath mints for a couple dollars. But those mints will not benefit teeth, fight germs and bacteria, prevent ear infections while being safe (and recommended) for diabetics.

So, in a nutshell, THAT is why we use Xylitol!

Love this product. Like others, I would like to buy certain flavors in bulk. Can't wait to see what other flavors you come out with..maybe...cotton candy? big grin

wink My husband and I are really enjoying Ice Chips. We started eliminating sugar from our diet about 5months ago. Ice Chips have been a very delicious treat. We use natural sweeteners for all or our cooking, baking, and sweetening of things like coffee and tea. Xylitol, honey, maple sypup, and stevia are our favorite sweeteners. Here in central Maine, we have only found Ice Chips in health food stores. Ordering them direct will be a big plus.

Oh my gosh...theses are NOT good for anyone who has a sensitive stomach! They made me feel severely ill with non-stop diarrhea for a whole day. They taste pretty alright, but will steer clear from them from now on.

Also, I do hate to say this but your stands don't look very professional. I thought it was a gimmicky thing that was trying to rope in people like those giveaways. Not something that would attract my eyes normally.

These were tasty so my husband bought me 2 tins ($5.00 each). Got the root beer float which really tastes like it. Now I've chewed a ton of gum w/Xylitol in it without any problem.
These were so tasty I ate a bunch, about a third of the tin over an hour period. Within 1/2 hour I was so bloated and nauseated I couldn't get comfortable. Shortly thereafter and for the next 2 hours I had 6 episodes of explosive diarrhea; LARGE amounts of explosive diarrhea!
After downing enough water to sink a battleship and some dry toast, I finally felt better 3 hours later.
I called the company and the rep told me, "that's a common side effect of Xylitol, that's why the serving size is 2 chips." Nowhere on the tin doesn't it have a warning.
I'm kinda peeved because I doubt anyone eats just 2 chips, they're too tasty. I've never had this reaction to Xylitol before. And to top it off my husband paid $10 for stuff I can't eat and wouldn't give away (not even to people I hate).

big grin smile I agree with other posts that a bulk order (in a bag that can refill the tins) would be a great approach, keep costs down, and add an environmental benefit to the products that might reach others. Also, Watermelon and especially CHOCOlate would be awesome flavors to add. Thanks for going on Shark Tank, love this stuff.

big grin I ran into the pharmacy yesterday and they had a display along with an open tin of the spearmint to sample. I immediately loved these chips and purchased 2packs to take with me! But the selection was limited to root beer wintergreen and spearmint, so, that's why I placed an order. I wish you could sell them in bulk packages. Keep up the good work!

big grin I totally love Ice chips. I bought the shark tank special last Christmas and gave a couple as stocking stuffers to my daughters. (and of course we shared) I wonder tho', is there a way to get a small sample of other flavors? Or maybe there could be a small sample of another flavor in all your orders. Just a thought. Anyway, this years order is all mine and I can't wait to get them. Merry Christmas and God bless you all!

Just wanted to let you know, I really like your candy and love that it comes in a tin. So refreshing compared to the usual plastic containers that are everywhere now days. I am pre-diabetic and pick up your little tins of candy ever so often. They taste wonderful and I can use the tin for something else later when it's empty. Reminds me of the days when plastic was not so much in use. Thank you!!
