We get several questions asked over and over again:

  1. What is Xylitol?
  2. What are the advantages?
  3. Why is it so expensive?
  4. Why do you use it?

The easy answers are:

  1. Xylitol is a polyol, a sugar alcohol. It is all natural, safe for diabetics and has many health benefits.
  2. It is all natural, safe for diabetics and has many health benefits.
  3. Mostly, it is made from birch bark or corn. Ice Chips Candy uses only the birch bark Xylitol in order to avoid any chance of using Genetically Modified Corn (GMO). Additionally, the process and availability render this product much more expensive than sugar.
  4. Ice Chips Candy uses Birchwood Xylitol (made in the USA), in order to access the health benefits, particularly the dental and diabetic advantages.

We researched and understood the benefits of Xylitol early on at our parent company Healing Leaf LLC. We even sold a compressed pill-like candy for a while but wanted something with a higher concentration of Xylitol and a lower price point. While we could easily acquire bulk Xylitol, we were told it was impossible to make a hard candy.

If you want to get an impossible task accomplished, you might try going to someone with little knowledge of the subject but a passion for getting things done. Because we were health product experts but not Xylitol experts we ignored all the warnings. Lo and behold, within two days of trying, we created a tasty hard Xylitol candy in three different yummy flavors. Within a week we had seven of our current 18 flavors and we were selling Ice Chips to our friends.

We never underestimate the public's willingness to do the right thing for their bodies. We understand it is possible to get a package of breath mints for a couple dollars. But those mints will not benefit teeth, fight germs and bacteria, prevent ear infections while being safe (and recommended) for diabetics.

So, in a nutshell, THAT is why we use Xylitol!

Great candy. I am requesting that you consider selling it by the bag for people like me who enjoy it regularly. I feel like I am wasting metal and money, because I go through the tins relatively quickly. Have you considered packaging it for bulk purchases?

I had tried Spry Mints and gum in the past as a healthy alternative to sugar free gum and mints. I was not really thrilled with the taste. One day while browsing in the local drug store I saw Ice Chips and thought, why not? I'll give them a try. I was hooked on the first one. I immediately ran back and bought all three flavors they carried. I was curious if there were more flavors and looked up the website. I am now hooked on all of them! The shipping was beyond quick. The product and service is amazing, if I had one complaint, it would be the price. Those darn shark tank people. They certainly have to get their cut ;)

Nancy this is for reviews. if you have complaints then email the makers yourself and suck an egg. their quilter comments were part of a pitch and i don't think you understand what a review is. You tried the candy? confused that's what I thought. come back when you taste it.

I watched your segment on Shark Tank. In one sentence you alienated more than a million men and women who quilt. I, on occasion, enjoy a sweet treat, but I will never purchase your candy. How insulting and arrogant your comments were. Quilters not only produce beautiful pieces of art, they are carrying on a tradition handed down in families for many years.

LOVE this candy! I am on a restricted diet and a friend told me about them. I carry lemon in my purse to share and keep several other flavors in the car. Licorice is my favorite so far! I would LOVE CHOCOLATE, I miss chocolate!!! . Also Wish I could buy in bulk and refill my tins as I have quite the collection of tins and would like to reuse them. Keep up the great work!

I'm the new department head of our candy and drink section. Since we started ordering ice chips, I've become an addict and buy 3 to 4 tins for myself every week to fulfill my sugar craving (note: I'm 36 weeks pregnant and it helps with my nausea and heartburn. All of my customers at my work love the root beer flavor and I have to admit this is a delicious product.

I LOVE Ice Chips Candy. I have been experimenting with Xylitol for some time. Ice Chips Candy are the answer for me!!
I fight my weight and suffer from constant Dry Mouth. The Dry Mouth is caused by the medications I take. This has caused terrible tooth decay in the past 5 years.
Ice Chips Candy cuts the dry mouth and tastes great. I can satisfy my sweet tooth AND keep my dentist happy!
WATERMELON would be a fantastic flavor!!

I take multiple daily medications, and have suffered from malnutrition due to a chronic digestive disease. The malnutrition was hard on my teeth, leaving them weak and prone to decay. The medications cause dry mouth, which also leads to decay. I began having multiple cavities every dentist visit. I couldn't tolerate other xylitol mints, due to the sorbitol in them. After beginning to use Ice Chips daily, (in addition to a prescription toothpaste), I have not had any new cavities! My dentist is happy, and both her and all of her hygienists now use Ice Chips. My fav flavors are Berry Mix and Strawberry Margarita. I think Watermelon would be a great new flavor!

Ice Chips are the greatest thing for our patients. So many people suck on hard candy all day and do not understand the effects of the continual sugar added to their teeth throughout the day. The ice chips have become a constant for our patient goody bags. Thank you for making the product!

I watched that episode of Shark Tank and was so excited to see someone local! Recently I was hospitalized. I suffer from extreme nausea from anesthesia, so I purchased the Ginger flavor. I did start to have nausea from the moment I woke up. In my room I asked the nurse for my purse so I could get my Ginger Ice Chips. She was fascinated and asked to try one. It did significantly help me with my nausea AND I had a nurse who loved the candy! She looked it up online and told me she purchased some. Then in the morning, shift change, and a new nurse. She saw the Ice Chips on my table and again I offered her one to try. She loved them also!
