We get several questions asked over and over again:

  1. What is Xylitol?
  2. What are the advantages?
  3. Why is it so expensive?
  4. Why do you use it?

The easy answers are:

  1. Xylitol is a polyol, a sugar alcohol. It is all natural, safe for diabetics and has many health benefits.
  2. It is all natural, safe for diabetics and has many health benefits.
  3. Mostly, it is made from birch bark or corn. Ice Chips Candy uses only the birch bark Xylitol in order to avoid any chance of using Genetically Modified Corn (GMO). Additionally, the process and availability render this product much more expensive than sugar.
  4. Ice Chips Candy uses Birchwood Xylitol (made in the USA), in order to access the health benefits, particularly the dental and diabetic advantages.

We researched and understood the benefits of Xylitol early on at our parent company Healing Leaf LLC. We even sold a compressed pill-like candy for a while but wanted something with a higher concentration of Xylitol and a lower price point. While we could easily acquire bulk Xylitol, we were told it was impossible to make a hard candy.

If you want to get an impossible task accomplished, you might try going to someone with little knowledge of the subject but a passion for getting things done. Because we were health product experts but not Xylitol experts we ignored all the warnings. Lo and behold, within two days of trying, we created a tasty hard Xylitol candy in three different yummy flavors. Within a week we had seven of our current 18 flavors and we were selling Ice Chips to our friends.

We never underestimate the public's willingness to do the right thing for their bodies. We understand it is possible to get a package of breath mints for a couple dollars. But those mints will not benefit teeth, fight germs and bacteria, prevent ear infections while being safe (and recommended) for diabetics.

So, in a nutshell, THAT is why we use Xylitol!

I have not yet tried Ice Chips because I have 2 dogs who seem to get into everything and XYLITOL IS DEADLY TO PETS! I have not seen anything on your website cautioning people to NEVER GIVE THESE TO PETS! Please update your FAQ and give strong, red-box warnings that these will KILL YOUR DOGS!

I do not think of Ice Chips as candy. They are the only Xylitol product that I have found that works with the dry mouth that results from chemotherapy treatment. Other products don't last long, and don't taste very good.

My sister found Lemon Ice Chips for me in Saskatchewan and I now order online, but I shall talk to the local natural products stores about them.

Thank you for making a difference to me!

I enjoy having different flavors every day. My new nickname at Alta View Hospital is now Ice Chips Candy Queen. I love going in the Gift Shop and on the website to create my own personal stash. I also have fun keeping our Gift Shop Manager updated on new flavors you enjoy creating. Will you please make chocolate flavors? I love Ice Chips Candy. Thank you Bev and Charlotte.

I have not tried yet but after reading about your product, I am very anxious to try!!! The benefits of your product far outweigh any loyalty I might have to any other product.

Just saw your episode on Shark Tank. When you indicated your products do not have laxative effects in small amounts, due to personal unpleasant experience, I would beg to differ. Products like sorbitol and xylitol can cause effects like a laxative. EAT WITH CAUTION.

Our Gift Shop manager at Alta View Hospital got me in big trouble with Ice Chips Candy. I love volunteering at the hospital. I love creating my own personal stash and helping support everyone. Will you please make chocolate flavors? The Ice Chips Candy are helping me with everything. I enjoy carrying different flavors every day. Thank you for adding Alta View Hospital as one of the locations. Thank you for creating fun flavored mints.

I am hooked on your ice chips and they are the only candy I eat!

But I have this drawer full of tins and I was wondering ...

... the cost of the ice chips is a bit much for a lot of us and maybe if you would consider providing ice chips in a bag where we can refill our tins, well, the cost could go down and it would be a plus for our environment as well ... !!

We were 50 miles from our home town when we walked into a specialty shop in a little tiny town and purchased these amazing candies! My kids fell in love with them and my husband and I kept stealing some when the kids weren't looking. I am so happy we found them online:)

Okay, so most of the flavors are flat out delicious. Wintergreen gives me a headache but I'm weird that way.

The miraculous thing about these is how they go from being hard and dry and suddenly they dissolve in a burst of moisture. I have Sjogren's Syndrome and the dry mouth has been horrific. I've used Spry in the past but something about them hurts my tongue, these don't.

The flavors are fantastic. Root beer float is delicious, cinnamon is spicy, spearmint tastes VERY spearmint, the cherry is tart. Margarita is a little less lime than I'd like and a little less salt, but it's still quite good. I'm looking forward to trying the menthol eucalyptus, I live on cough drops in the winter and hate how they make my mouth taste.
