14 Compelling Benefits of Xylitol

Why Xylitol?

There are more than 14 specific ways Xylitol benefits people.

·         It is recommended for Diabetics

·         It helps prevent cavities

·         Helps prevent ear infections

·         Xylitol slows the growth of Candida

·         Has shown to be of benefit for increasing bone density

·         Benefits tooth enamel

·         Increases blood cell activity

·         Can contribute to newborn health

·         Helps with sinus infections

·         May lower the risk of ovarian cysts

·         Inhibits growth of germs and bacteria

·         Benefits athletes

·         All natural and is even produced in your own body

·         While it can have side effects they are minimal

We have all heard the hype about sweeteners and alternatives to sugar.  But usually when the other shoe falls the news is bad. Perhaps that is because many sugar substitutes rely on chemical additives to achieve a palatable taste.  That is not true of Xylitol.  Xylitol is good for people.  It is great for teeth and it permits diabetics to enjoy tasteful sweet snacks.

Xylitol has been around since 1891.  It is much more familiar in other parts of the world where it has been used to benefit teeth and bodies for decades.

Are there side effects?  One.  Eaten in too great a quantity, Xylitol can cause diarrhea.  Eventually our bodies build a tolerance but in the beginning, 5 to 10 grams of Xylitol is plenty.  Why does this happen?  Xylitol is a sugar alcohol or polyol.  It is natural.  Human bodies even produce Xylitol in small amounts.

There is one notable caution when you bring Xylitol and Xylitol products into your home.  It should be kept away from dogs and other small animals.  They cannot properly digest it and that negatively affects their livers.

Physicians and wellness experts tell us sugar is bad for us. Monica Reinagel, M.S., L.D./N,. in the Online publication, QUICK AND DIRTY TIPS, says sugar speeds up the aging process.  BODY ECOLOGY in their 25 Reasons to Reduce or Avoid Sugar in Your Diet, says, “sugar lowers your immunity and robs your bones of minerals.”

A minimal amount of research convinces most of  us to cut high levels of sugar from our diet.  And yet the average sweet tooth is not so easily convinced.

Xylitol provides a safe and sane alternative.  It can be substituted in recipes cup for cup. Good Xylitol (made from birch bark as opposed to corn) isn’t cheap.  It can be purchased in bulk at most health food stores.

Whether you choose candy (try Ice Chips® Candy in 18 delicious flavors) and gum or raw Xylitol as a way to get Xylitol benefits into your body and into your children, you are making a great choice.
